The Vibe

Dimension: Variable

Media: Photograph in archival paper, gold leaf, silver leaf, copper leaf, rabbit skin glue, Japanese paper, brass, and graphite.

I was born and brought up in old Dhaka; impressions of old Dhaka always remain the same in my memory. Since my childhood, I have been observing the radical changes of Dhaka city. The enormous social, economic, and environmental changes of urbanization create a direct impact on my observance. Different forms of urbanization can be classified depending on the style of architecture and planning methods as well as the historic growth of areas. I am interested in the visual constructional form and infrastructure of the built environment of urbanization and its impact on society and my commemoration. My concentration is to depict the identifiable city structure; moments and characters form surroundings where I used to live, suggesting a plethora of private and often solitary narratives. For this project, different pieces of work (photographs and drawings using metal and traditional forms) together form a potential narrative in a space that gives the feelings of nowhere and everywhere at once.
